The accuracy of the data collected by ultrasound instruments is paramount in the interpretation and diagnostic utilization of the information collected.  2005 ICAVL Standards, Part I: Vascular Laboratory Operations Organization

Are you an IDTF (Independent Diagnostic Test Facility)From the list of performance standards to maintain your Medicare billing privileges you must: “Have testing equipment calibrated and maintained per equipment instructions and in compliance with applicable manufacturers suggested maintenance and calibration standards."

Routine QC testing must occur regularly; a minimum requirement is semiannually including probes.  "Ultrasound Accreditation Program Requirements" ACR, Revised 6/20/06

   Count on MedEquip Biomedical to:

  • IMPROVE QUALITY IMAGES, PATIENT CARE
  • IMPROVE SAFETY
  • POSITIVELY IMPACT COST-EFFECTIVENESS/LOWER OPERATING COSTS
  • SAVE TIME
  • ADDRESS CENTER FREQUENCY FOR MAMMOGRAPHY
  • ENHANCE COLOR, DOPPLER, B-Mode
  • MAXIMIZE WARRANTY & SERVICE CONTRACT OUTCOMES
  • POSITIVELY IMPACT CARE THROUGHOUT HOSPITAL e.g. CARDIOLOGY, RADIOLOGY/ULTRASOUND, OB/GYN
  • PROVIDE BETTER RISK/QA MGMT
  • HELP BIOMEDICAL/CLINICAL ENGINEERING OPTIMALLY MAINTAIN EQUIPMENT

A complete report is provided with probes cataloged into 3 distinct groups:

  • Certified - the probes are operating correctly
  • Observations - an issue but it is not yet affecting clinical outcomes or patient safety.
  • Findings - an issue that is affecting clinical outcomes or patient safety.

ACR recommends QC testing is done at least twice each year. "Ultrasound Accreditation Program Requirements" ACR, Revised 6/20/06

A preventative maintenance program that includes on-site probe testing WILL help fulfill the requirements for ACR, AIUM, ICAVL and ICAEL  accreditation. Our Probe Testing Program follows the scheduled maintenance procedures recommended by respective equipment manufacturers and industry standards. Documentation protocols regarding maintenance procedures are in compliance with all regulatory agency requirements including:

  • Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
  • American College Radiology
  • MQSA
  • AAAHC National Electric Code and the National Fire Protection Association

As well as all other federal, state and local agencies.

FirstCall aPerio

The FirstCall is a unique portable, high-speed testing device designed to measure the relevant acoustic and electrical parameters of most electronic array probes produced by Acuson/Siemens, Aloka, ATL/Philips, Agilent/Philips and Philips MUX, Cypress, ESAOTE/Biosound, Hitachi, General Electric, Medison, Siemens, SonoSite, Toshiba Medical Systems and others. This easy to use, yet powerful, test device provides repeatable and quantifiable data required to objectively determine the operational effectiveness of an ultrasound probe, for both acceptance testing as well as on-going QA testing.

FirstCall aPerio™ reports in a format that allows clear tracking of performance changes while documenting the key indicators of probe related problems, even before the user can see changes in image or Doppler performance and often while the probe can still be cost-effectively repaired.  The FirstCall aPerio aPerio™ comes complete with your choice of OEM probe family adapters and probe family device drivers, the operating and report program, a universal probe holder, parallel PC cable, various probe targets and user documentation.

FirstCall aPerio aPerio tests:

Ultrasound - ACR Technical Standard, ACCREDITATION, BREAST ACCREDITATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS – 2011

All ultrasound must be evaluated upon installation (acceptance testing) & routinely thereafter to ensure proper function.  Performed or supervised by a Qualified Medical Physicist.  Regular PM done & documented by a qualified service engineer following OEM guidelines.  Performance evaluation tests must be done at lease annually on all machines and PROBES:

Continuous QC is essential – Probes are weak link since they are easy to drop, cables kinked/stressed & fragile elements.  All probes should be tested upon acquisition/upgrade/repair as well as quarterly and must be tested at least semiannually including probe ports to allow problems to be identified before diagnostic utility is significantly impacted…
